A Cedar Rapids Homeowner contacted us in early January 2025, wanting someone to asses the state of their home’s attic insulation. During our inspection, we found a few things that didn’t surprise us: old, damaged, and insufficient insulation. However, we also found something that did! A large section of exposed attic space right beside a large section of missing ceiling tile in the home’s mudroom. Gaps like these let air move freely between the unconditioned and conditioned spaces of a house. This is a little like turning on your heater or air conditioner and leaving your front door wide open! Something had to be done. 

Together with the homeowner, we determined a scope of work: remove all existing insulation, air-seal penetrations, close off and seal the giant opening into the attic space, and insulate the entire attic with brand new, fluffy fiberglass.
