Spray Foam at
V House
V House is a new home with a unique layout nestled in a forested neighborhood of Eastern Iowa. Insulation-wise, it is an impressive project. For exterior walls, it utilizes a hybrid system of closed cell spray foam, fiberglass batt insulation, and Zip System R-Sheathing. Total R-value for exterior walls comes in at 35, with energy code only requiring R-20.
In addition, a robust sound insulation system including fiberglass batts in walls and fiberglass blow in-between floors was installed.
The owner of V House asked for a meticulous air infiltration package, aiming to come in at less than one air change per hour when it’s time for energy testing. With a combination of air-seal, spray foam, and expert attention to detail, V House is well on its way to achieving that goal.
On the mechanical side, V House was fitted with a geothermal system, a heat pump water heater, and an ERV fresh air intake system, utilizing only electricity for all utilities.
Some neat features of V House include a cantilevered kitchen nook held up by steel beams, which Thermal Shop insulated with spray foam. In the master bathroom, you’ll find in-floor radiant heat. All this, in addition to floor-to-ceiling windows in the master bedroom, an R-21 spray foam garage, and a quaint courtyard out front.
