2- Story Batt
Insulation Removal
This project involved removing all of the insulation from two separate attic spaces in a 1993 Cedar Rapids house. The old insulation was insufficient and water lines were beginning to freeze. In addition, the attic spaces were rife with rodent activity, which was damaging the insulation. Homeowners were experiencing temperature discrepancies between different rooms of the house, high utility bills due to excessive heat loss, and various sounds from the rodents. Needless to say, it was time for an upgrade.
Before
It was decided that all old attic insulation would be removed. Missing or damaged baffles would be replaced, and any problematic eves would be addressed. Then, closed cell spray foam would be applied to all attic penetrations, gaps, and kneewalls. Finally, fiberglass would be blown-in at an R-value of 50.
During
After vacuuming all of the old insulation out of the attic and applying spray foam, it was time for the finishing touch: R-50 loose-fill fiberglass, which brings this attic up to new-home standards.
